In the mountains it is always a few degrees cooler. This is particularly noticeable in the higher elevations of 500 meters and at night. For hiking, you should bring some warmer clothes.

Mauritius makes a perfect year round destination. The highest temperatures are to be expected around Christmas. During the European summer temperatures are a bit lower, at 25°C. Hence, you can decide to come to Mauritius at any time of the year and will be sure to have a comfortable weather during your stay. A worthwhile stay should last two weeks at least so that the body finds enough time to acclimate. Short rain showers have to be expected throughout the year. They are an appreciated relief in the hot season and offer the possibility for trips around the island.
In summer cyclones (whirlwinds) can occur between December and March, in winter they are much weaker, these are the so-called anti-cyclones. Storm warnings are made public on TV and radio. On the free call number 96 you will be able to receive the latest news and helpful information in several languages. The last cyclone reached the island in January 2002.
