Transportation in Mauritius
You have different possibilities to travel in Mauritius: by bus, hire car or taxi.
The cheapest way to travel on the island is by bus. There are different bus lines that operate in the different regions of the island. Busses usually operate from 6 a.m. till 7 p.m. There are no timetables, but one usually doesn’t have to wait a long time for the next bus. The bus stops are marked with “Bus Stop”-signs. The tickets are low priced and are bought from the conductor in the bus. There are express busses on some routes. These busses don’t stop on all bus stops and are often air-conditioned.
For an individual daytrip you can also hire a car. You will need an international driver’s license. On Mauritius there is left-hand driving. On the filling stations the service is inclusive. You can only fuel Super Unleaded and Diesel, the prices are fixed by the state.
You can also go on a daytrip in a taxi. The taxi driver is then at the same time your personal tour guide. The price for the tour should be fixed beforehand.
